is a member in many local and international scientific societies and Non-Governmental
Organizations. Participated in several projects sponsored by the USAID, WHO, and
UNICIEF. He has more than 25 publications. |

Dr. AHMED K AL-SHATTI, BMS MBBS MSc FFOM, is Consultant in occupational and
environmental medicine; Director, Occupational health Dept.; Director, Health
Education and Media Dept. Ministry of Health, Kuwait. WHO consultant in
occupational health and CBI (Healthy cities project). Member of Faculty of Public
Health / KIMS, Chairman of the medical Committee, Higher council for the
Handicapped. Dr Ahmad is a well-known public health activist, fighting against
tobacco use, advocating Safety, standing for environment, and promoting healthy
life styles. He will review the Kuwaiti effort to promote health with as new as genuine dimension in
Ministry of Health strategy; health promotion at workplace; and special needs and hazards of
expatriate workers. |

Dr. AMAL HJ AL-YAHIA, MBBS, MSc. HEMD. MOH . She is an active health promoter
with special interest in women's health. She will describe the major physiological
changes in the women’s body with the approach of menopause and the major risks to
health. Then explore the best setting for conveying the health promotion message that
suits the Arabic woman in general and the Kuwaiti woman in particular. |

health, she is well known among the Ahmadi governorate for her dynamic interaction
with the community for health. |

Dr. JASEM RAMADAN is Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Physiology,
Director, Physical Activity and Exercise Physiology Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait
University. He is Chairman, Sports Medicine Committee Kuwait Amateur Athletic
Federation. He will introduce WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health.
Basic physical needs for health during life span. He will be discussing about increased
costs (employee benefit costs, reduced productivity, and increased bsenteeism)
suffered by organizations that have physically inactive employees. He will show how the extra costs
may be reduced substantially if workplaces encourage regular physical activity programs |

Dr. LAYLA AL-JASEM, MBBS, MSC, DrPH. Head of health Education section. HEMD.
MoH. Her special interest include risk factors in Diabetes mellitus. She will explore the
concepts of health behavior and examining the socio-cultural factors influencing such
behaviors. Also, the influence of health promotion, self-care and lifestyle on health
behaviors the USA & other countries will be addressed. |

Dr. LINA ABOU-DHEIR, Clinical Pharmacist. Chief Pharmacist, Kuwait Oil Company
(K.O.C) Ahmadi Hospital, Kuwait. Received her doctor of Pharmacy degree from the
University of the Pacific, California USA. Started her career with the KOC, worked in UK
for 7 yrs with international pharmacy companies. She designed and edited Hospital
Formulary to enable clinicians to select the most cost effective drug choice. Set a new
strategy of procurement to optimise costs and improve service delivery. Has a lot of
interest in the area of health promotion at work place, and has attended several
conferences on the subject. |

Dr. MADHAVA RAO, MBBS MD DNB MFOM PhD is senior specialist, Occupational
medicine, and Head, Occupational Health Division, Shuaiba Industrial Medical Center,
MOH, Kuwait. He received MBBS, MD and PhD from India, and MFOM from Royal
College of Physicians, Ireland. A former Professor at Andhra Medical College, India, he
taught Occupational Medicine at several major universities in India and Libya. 25 years
of experience in building/running OH Systems, training people and research. He
coordinates the training activities of OHD and KSOEM, Kuwait. He will present tips on-
how to build organizations/ make structural modifications so vital in facilitating health promotion. He
will also discuss the approaches to create stress–free work place to promote health. |

DR. MOHAMED ZUBAID, is Consultant in internal medicine and cardiology; Head,
division of Cardiology. Mubarak Al-Kabir Hospital, Associate Professor of Medicine, Faculty
of Medicine, Kuwait University. His interests include professional and community
education to promote healthy life style changes in order to bring about prevention of
heart diseases in this modern era. |

Dr. MOOSA JWAISER, is a consultant Family Physician. He has MBBS from
Kuwait University, and fellowship in Family Medicine. In addition to his busy clinical
interaction with his patients, he takes an active role in reaching out to the community
with health messages through mass media, meetings, seminars etc., He will be
discussing the potential use of clinic visits as starting points for the health promotion
programs through communication skills practice. |

DR. NAWAL AL-HAMAD, Nawal Al Hamad is a consultant clinical nutritionist and
Director of food and nutrition Dep. MoH. Her interests and activities focus on 1.
developing technical skills of dietitians, health educators and medical doctors
specializing in the field of nutrition 2.conducting and monitoring nutrition surveillance
programs in programs to identify deficiency states &/or nutrition related disease trends
and implementing the appropriate intervention programs to help reduce its occurrence
and 3. Promoting healthy lifestyle practice in the community sectors including the working people. |
